Removable
Body Makes It Seem As If You Have 2 Different Cars!
The MX2's 4130 TIG-welded
chassis is constructed from all chromoly tubing (1-, 1 1/4-
and 1 1/2-inch O. D., and .065- and .095-inch wall
thickness). This two-seater sand car has a 108-inch
wheelbase and the front suspension employs a symmetrical
upper and lower A-arm design, along with a center mounted
Saco rack and pinion steering unit. The tie-rods are
chromoly, as are the spindles, and 4130 chromoly rod ends
are used at all pivot points. Fox 2.0 shocks with coil
over springs supply 22 inches of wheel travel.
Finishing off the front end are CNC disc brakes, along with
Douglas bead lock rims that mount Implement tires.
The independent rear
suspension is of dual pivot trailing arm design, made
entirely of chromoly tubing. They are set up to use
7/8-inch rod ends at the inboard pivot points, and 7/8-inch
rod ends outboard. The trailing arms are designed to
be used in conjunction with Kartek's race-proven micro stub
axle assembly. These shorter stub axles are designed
for larger 930 CV joints and provide clearance for increased
axle (Kartek 300M units) plunge, as well as incorporating
Wilwood disc brakes. The 20 inches of rear wheel
travel is regulated by specially valved Fox 2.5 shocks with
coil over springs, and flotation is achieved with a set of
Douglas bead lock rims and Sand Tires Unlimited paddle
tires.
